Recording Electric Counterpoint
Below is the complete backing track for minimalist composer Steve Reich's 'Electric Counterpoint'. This music was written in 1987 and scored for between 7 and 12 guitars and 2 bass guitars (this is the backing track) plus a live solo guitar added in performance.
The piece has three movements - Fast, Slow, Fast - and I've just finished recording all three movements. Below are the audio files of the backing track - these sound different to Pat Metheny's recorded version of course, because the file below is just the backing track without the live solo guitar.
1st Movement - Fast 2nd Movement - Slow 3rd Movement - Fast
You might also recognize part of the first movement from The Orb's 'Little Fluffy Clouds' - they sampled Reich's music for their track.
I hope to perform the whole piece in 2012, the 25th anniversary of the composition.
