Contemporary playing - rock riffs, songs, soloing and band skills

Playing rock guitar in a band is great fun and it doesn't take long to learn enough to play along to songs you know. If you like rock, blues, metal, funk or jazz, the electric guitar is used for all these styles.

Getting familiar with basic techniques, learning to read tab and understanding how songs work are essential skills to develop to get the most from playing.

After that, there is a world of sound to discover and create using riffs, solos, expressive techniques and effects. Then learn to play with other musicians and write your own music.

Lessons focus on building solid technique and rhythm skills while reading guitar/bass tab & chord charts and understanding music notation. Players are encouraged to work on songs and music they would like to play and develop the ability to make music with others.

Jon will play along on guitar, bass and drums (though not all at once!) using the studio electronic drumkit, making the lessons fun and useful.
